Rebecca Benzell is a writer-director and actor with an eye for the weird, wry, and wondrous. Based in New York City, she inherited `60s rock-‘n’-roll, holistic medicine, and transgenerational trauma from her late-stage hippie parents. Chronic illness swallowed her adolescence and, inheritance in hand, she learned to heal in her own way—teaching herself the many classes she missed, performing in a touring Holocaust play, and double-dosing every episode of Quantum Leap. She now writes stories about healing and hope amid cynicism and prejudice.
Her horror fairy-tale THE GIRL AND THE GHOST placed in the Academy Nicholl Fellowships Top 50 Semifinals, and her sci-fi noir FEEL NO EVIL placed in the Page Awards Finals. Shorts and webseries she’s directed include official selections at LAIFFA, NYCIFF, and the Chelsea Film Festival. She studied theater and philosophy at Temple University; mask, clown, and playwriting at the National Theater Institute; and is a graduate of the Script Coordinator track of the 2022 WGI Support Staff Training Program.
She is the only member of her family who can’t play a ukulele.
